This is a compelling game for everyone who loves trains. The literacy level ranges from Pre-K to 3rd grade with intensive practice for phonemic awareness and syllabification. The words in this game help the child or adult learn specific vocabulary for talking about trains and a shared vocabulary is a building block in concept development. Train Talk (below), has 128 different Wh-questions. The question/answer format is great for turn taking and responses to questions. Benchmark Pre-K: Uses listening and speaking strategies for different purposes. Uses descriptive language. Asks questions to obtain information. Answers simple questions. Uses visual and verbal cues to comprehend new words and stories.
California Standards: Read simple one-syllable and high frequency words. Respond to who, what, when, where, and how questions. Generate the sounds from all the letters and letter patterns, and blend those sounds into words.
